Join Crossroads Care Charity as a part-time cook and play a key role in preparing, cooking, and serving nutritious and appetising lunches for attendees.

We require a cook to join our team in Rotherham.

Job Purpose

To prepare, cook, and serve nutritious and appetising lunches for service users attending the Day Centre, ensuring high standards of food hygiene, cleanliness, and health and safety are maintained at all times.

Key Responsibilities

Food Preparation and Cooking

  • Prepare and cook daily lunches in line with planned menus and dietary requirements.
  • Ensure meals are nutritious, well-presented, and served on time.
  • Cater for special dietary needs, allergies, and cultural preferences where required.
  • Monitor food portions and minimise food waste.
  • Support with the food ordering and agreed menu planning

Kitchen Operations

  • Maintain a clean, organised, and hygienic kitchen environment at all times.
  • Wash up and clear away all kitchen equipment, utensils, and dining areas following meal service.
  • Ensure correct storage, labelling, and rotation of food items in accordance with food safety regulations.
  • Monitor stock levels and report shortages to the Registered Manager.

Food Hygiene and Health & Safety

  • Comply fully with all Food Hygiene Regulations and Health & Safety legislation.
  • Maintain high standards of personal hygiene and safe food handling practices.
  • Carry out daily cleaning schedules and maintain accurate cleaning records where required.
  • Ensure safe operation of kitchen equipment and report any faults immediately.
  • Follow infection prevention and control procedures.
  • Ensure all food preparation areas meet Environmental Health standards.
  • Complete relevant paperwork

General Duties

  • Work cooperatively with Day Centre staff and volunteers.
  • Treat all service users with dignity, respect, and kindness.
  • Attend relevant training including Food Hygiene and Health & Safety training.
  • Undertake any other reasonable duties appropriate to the role.
